Peace Be To You,
It is quite ironic that, on the eve of Guy Fawkes Day, you too have betrayed your faith much the same way he was betrayed. The teachings of the Church are clear as are the teachings of the Holy Father and of the Bishops.
You claim to accept the teachings of the Church, the teachings that state all life is sacred from conception to natural death and yet you have contributed to the election of a man who has yet to find a method of abortion that he doesn't support. You have betrayed millions of unborn children because you bought into lines like hope and change rather than listening to the words of The Man whom Obama claims to be a follower of:
|
" But whoso shall offend one of these little ones, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea." What were you thinking? There is no justification for your decision. Don't claim Micah 6:8 or speak in the name of social justice, if you won't defend the defenseless then any other actions or words of yours ring hollow. You need to take time to pause and reflect on whether you truly are Catholic or if you only claim your faith when there is no risk in doing so. The Catholic faith is COUNTER-CULTURAL. The president-elect is not, he is of the world as his actions, (and inaction) have so often proved. I won't speak to you of heavenly judgment. That's between you and God. I only ask that every time you see a child in the next four years, you thank God that at least that child made it despite your vote. Then think about the ones that didn't. Reflect before Communion on the word and what it is you are about to receive. Are you In Communion? Should you receive when on at least some level, you seem to disagree with what your church teaches? The Catholic Church predates the Democratic Party by 1,700 years and the GOP by 1,800 or so. There is a reason for this. The teachings of our faith are eternal, the beliefs of the man you have helped elect and his party shift with the wind. Before you hammer me and call me a hypocrite, let me state that I freely admit to being a sinner. I am speaking now in a spirit of Fraternal Correction. Our faith is not a cafeteria, there are many Protestant denominations who offer that variety. We have remained what we are in the face of oppression, persecution, and hate and we will continue to do so. Will you stand at the foot of the cross or will you run? | |

Those who consider it to be one teaching among many then are not Catholic. The word means universal; all encompassing, it stands alone not beside a bunch of others like cereal boxes in the breakfast food aisle.
What you describe is called relativism, the embrace of all beliefs as having equal weight and merit. Both the Church and history itself stand as bearers of truth to the falsehood of relativism and the destruction it leads to. Relativism is a disease. Once injected into one aspect of the host it infects all other parts until the body dies.
Pray for the conversion of the ignorant to Truth.

I do not know anyone who believes that the Catholic Church is "the pillar and foundation of truth" (1 Tm 3:15) who voted for the pres. elect, but I do know many who consider the Church's teaching only one opinion from among many to choose, who did.
Pray for the conversion of Catholics to Catholicism.

Almost everything has been tried before and found wanting. But McCain is just as easy to target if we are picking and choosing votes and comments. It is really easy to make anyone look bad if you use only a few votes here and there or think about half of the story, a la Fox. I'll prove it.
McCain Voted Against Funding for After-
School Programs. McCain voted against additional funding for after-school programs under the Elementary
and Secondary Education Act of 1965. (S.Amdt. 1609 to
S.Amdt. 1542 to H.R. 2660, Vote 340, 9/10/03)
McCain Voted Against Funding for Head
Start. McCain has voted repeatedly against funding for Head Start programs, as recently as 2005. In 2003, McCain voted against increasing spending on Head Start
programs by $24 billion and on after-school programs by $18 billion over 10 years. That year, he also voted against a Democratic effort to add $350 million to Head Start,
the federal program for poor preschool children.
McCain Voted Against School Repairs and
Construction. McCain voted against $1.6 billion in school construction funding to repair the most dilapidated
school buildings. (S. 1, Vote 108, 5/16/01)
McCain Opposed Efforts to Increase Funding
for Special Education and Education and
Health Programs. McCain voted against allowing an amendment to increase funding for special education and against $7.1 billion for education and health programs.
(S.Amdt. 2292 to H.R. 3010, Vote
See?? What it boils down to is that the majority of people in this country - Catholic or not - decided the better ideas came from Obama and I will stand firm in the assessment that they were thinking of the children already here in this country and on this planet.
Oh yeah - and then there's this =
McCain is morally opposed to abortion but agrees with safe, discrete abortions as an alternative to more dangerous procedures. McCain has said he would like to see the abortion rate drop to 0, but "wants to do it through education and cultural awareness rather than legislative or judicial format."
Politicians say anything to get elected, depending on who is listening.

What kind of education? What about homeschooling, something Obama is opposed to? What about school vouchers so that parents have the ability to put their kids in private schools because the public school system, (which Obama won't even put his own children into), is broken?
What kind of health care? Socialized medicine where choice is taken away from the individual? Forced vaccinations based on what the government wants regardless of individual beliefs?
His agenda calls for more government policy and less individual freedom, this has been tried before and found wanting.

Perhaps the Catholics who voted for Obama were thinking of the children they already have and the fact that his agenda calls for making sure they can get schooling and health care when they otherwise might not. Just a thought.

Excellent, Andy.
I was appalled when I signed into Facebook on Tuesday and saw that my sister had her status message set in support of Obama. She is a practicing Catholic, we are her daughter's godparents. I was just shocked and hurt. She doesn't follow politics at all, so I have a feeling that she was influenced by her in-laws, who are very liberal, but she had to know what she was doing and what Obama stands for.
Anyway, I was surprised at the number of Catholics who openly and vocally admitted voting for Obama. It makes me very sad and scared for the future of our country.

As I said, look at certain voting blocks, the most obvious one are the Mexican/Hispanic voters of the West. In places like New Mexico and California, they are a traditional Democratic voting block. I'm sure many of the figures we are hearing of the number of Catholics who voted for Obama is skewed by this figure. It's unfortunate, I once worked for a Treasure of the Democratic party of a state and he was Hispanic. This was about 15 years ago. He also did the bookkeeping for the nearby Catholic church. It may have been a contradiction to vote Democratic even in those days. This is a dilemma these peoples need to examine. Likewise, there are a number of Hispanics who are pro-life I know of as well.
I don't know how the Church can deal with this, if there is a penance to serve. I'm no judge as to know whether they even belong in the Church for voting for Obama.
