Fr. Michael Pfleger: Now What
Back on March 29th I blogged about the words and actions of Father Michael Pfleger and his defense of Jeremiah Wright. Michelle Malkin also blogged about it, and Pro-Life activist and blogger Jill Stanek has been following the man for quite some time. I received no response from the Archidocese of Chicago when I called asking for a comment. The age old method of ignore and it will go away no longer seems to be likely as Bill O'Reilly made Fr. Pfleger and his actions the first story on his show tonight. Now let's see if Cardinal George will be a Shepherd. If not, then the Vatican needs to be contacted, especially considering the fact that the Holy Father will soon be sharing headline space with Pfleger when he arrives in a couple of weeks.
Personally, I believe Pfleger should be suspended and silenced while an investigation takes place. If he is guilty of placing his ego and his desire to be a political activist ahead of his duty as a Priest which seems likely, (and don't hand me the liberation theology or worker priest movements as a defense, none of them would have defended Farrakhan), he should be laicized and allowed to follow his secular siren song. Pfleger and Wright may want to read Jeremiah 50:6.

The cardinal might be afraid to do anything. Fr. Pflegler could leave the church and take most of his parishioners with him. They appear to have already left in spirit but Carinal George probably doesn't want an official break on his watch.

Then so be it. We started small and a return to that may not necessarily be a bad thing. If the Archdiocese does nothing, then a greater scanadal is created as other Pflegers lead more people astray.
Pope Benedict XVI said early in his pontificate that we may need to return to being a remnant Church. If I have to choose between a remnant Church and that horrifying excuse for liturgy and prostitution of the Gospel to serve the ego and political purpose of someone like Pfleger, then go ahead and feed me to the lions.

Fr. Pfleger, at a demonstration trying to shut down a legal firearms dealer, called on the crowd to "snuff out" the dealer by name. He was rebuked by his Bishop for his urging hocide but the state took no action against him.

And it won't as the First Ammendment is applied in some areas as arbitrarily as it is interpreted. Had someone other than Pfleger said it, then there would have been hell to pay. This man is no alter Christi, he's just another bitter 60's retread who feeds on conflict and discontent...not very Christ-like at all.

It's priests like him that have driven people like myself out of the Catholic Church. The lack of response by the Catholic Church to this fool is an embarrassment to every one connected with Catholicism

I am appalled at Fr. Michael Pfleger's comments at Trinity United Church in
Chicago. His scathing political remarks and disgusting behavior certainly are not characteristic of our Catholic faith. He should be ashamed of himself. I wonder if he knows that Barack Obama has a 100% pro-abortion record and is backed by NARAL. Isn't that against our Catholic faith's teachings?

It is priest , or so-called priest like michael that has given the catholic's a bad name. the one's that follow him will end up
in the same place as he........HELL.
OUR LEADERS SIT BACK AND SAY NOTHING.
IT IS know wonder we have to sell off our churches, they are becoming so empty we cannot afford to open the doors.
Where have all the good priest gone....????

what happened to love? Paul said without charity I am nothing

It is in the spirit of love that we rebuke a Fr.Pfleger. If we stand by and do nothing whilst he self condemns his eternal soul, we will be held accountable. Fr.Pfleger, has lost site of his mission and has allowed narcissistic ambitions promote his desire to use any tool, no matter how offensive, to grow his sad following. His outrageous and racist rants at the Rev.Wrongs former ecclesial community were disgraceful. I for one am tired of this man and will be contacting the Cardinal for actions of sanction against such blatant and bigoted sexist and racial comments.

PLEASE.....you don't leave the Catholic Church because of other peoples SINS. You do your homework and find out what the Catholic Church really teaches, starting with the Church Fathers and then the Saints then you'll know that you follow Jesus Christ and His Catholic Church the doctrines that were past down for 2,000 years and NOT the people in it!
Father Michael Pfleger should be removed from the priesthood and that's all there is to it. Then PRAY for all priests and ourselves as well.
Don't cut off your nose to spite your face, inthe end you'll lose your soul with it!

Those who commit these types of scandals are guility of the spiritual equivalent of murder, but I', here among you to prevent something far worst for you. While those who give scandal are guilty of the spiritual equivalent of murder, those who take scandal- who allow scandals to destroy faith- are guilty of spiritual suicide. -- St. Francis de Sales

Amazing! Nothing Pfleger has said in outside the truth, and I am amazed at the number of people who can't handle the truth. This country is in sad shape when its citizens can't see and won't admit their abhorable behavior and then castigate and threaten someone who does. Amazing. Simply amazing!!! And no I am not a liberal Democrat, I am a conservative Republican and have been for 52 years.

Welton, thanks for visiting and posting your comments. While I agree with you that there are major problems in this country I find Fr. Pfleger to be completely outside of the Truth as he uses truth (note change in case)and opinion as garments which he cuts to fit himself. Rather than shepherding his flock in Truth he chooses to exercise a pride and vanity that blinds and deludes his flock to admire hate filled bigots such as Louis Farrakhan and to allow his pulpit from which the Truth of the Gospel should be proclaimed to be profaned by hate speech and contravention of the Gospel by people like Jeremiah Wright. Pfleger is no prophet. He's no Jonah or Elijah. He is a man who at best is misguided and at worst is a demagogue in a Roman Collar.
