So I was looking at the 2007 birth statistics trying to determine how many woman in NJ actually attempt a VBAC.
In 2007 we had:
18,768 births with women who had a previous c-section
16,179 (86.2%) women had a repeat c-section (86.2%)
2,589 (13.8%) women attempted a VBAC (13.8%)
Of the 2,589 VBAC attempts:
1,466 had a successful VBAC (7.8% of all women with previous c-s)
1,123 had a failed TOL ( 6.0% of all women with previous c-s)
Looking at these numbers, it means that only 56.6% of women in NJ who attempt a VBAC actually have a successful VBAC. :( Our VBAC success rate SHOULD be higher. Studies consistently shower higher rates of success with VBAC. Why are NJ women different???
